Ternes, Price Reveal Their Favorite Literature for Journal Record Feature

The Journal Record - January 10, 2008

Attorneys do quite a bit of reading, but it's not all about laws and legal issues. In an article entitled "Local Lawyers laud their most-loved literature," The Journal Record's Maria Price interviewed local attorneys to find out what they read when their not reading legal briefs, including McAfee & Taft's own Mary Ellen Ternes and Louis Price.

Mary Ellen, an environmental law attorney, revealed she's a fan of science fiction, especially literature written by Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury. She also told The Journal Record that she enjoys real-world science as well because it "often outdistances the imaginings of sci-fi writers these days." One of her favorite authors is Jared Diamond, whose non-fiction book Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies won a Pulitzer Prize.

Meanwhile, business law attorney Louis Price said he enjoys historical novels that set fictional characters and situations against accurate historical backdrops. He's currently reading Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splended Suns, about the difficulties encountered by two Afghan women. Louis' "to-read" list includes Ken Follett's World Without End as well as Jeffrey Toobin's nonfiction book, The Nine, about the current U.S. Supreme Court.
