Entertainment Lawyer Weighs in on "Indiana Jones" Movie Spoiler Controversy

The Oklahoman - September 27, 2007

Veteran entertainment lawyer Jay Shanker was interviewed by The Oklahoman for a story on a former Edmond resident-turned-aspiring actor who leaked several key movie plot points to the forthcoming "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." The actor's comments, which were made during an interview with The Edmond Sun, have created a controversy in Hollywood.

In the article entitled "Last Dance: Playing 'spoiler' could lead to Edmond actor's last dance," Shanker weighed in on the ramifications of breaching a contract and revealing such closely-guarded movie secrets.  The risks, he said, include being blackballed in the industry.  "It's difficult (to imagine) that somebody else is going to put him or her in such a high-profile situation on another project without either different kinds of contractual assurances or some assurance of more maturity."

Throughout his career, Shanker has represented public, private and not-for-profit companies, along with individual producers, directors, writers, actors, musical artists, industry executives and entrepreneurs in the entertainment industry.  His individual clients have over the years garnered prestigious international awards in every major creative media, including Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Clio award recognition.
